Another 2 Kindle Freebies
Feb. 23rd, 2012 03:44 amToday Horns of Power: Manifestations of the Horned God is free on the kindle. Only one of the ones I posted about yesterday is still free now so this isn't likely to stay free for long either. I actually have this one in hard copy and really enjoyed it.
The Guises of the Morrigan is also free at this moment. None of the ones I posted about yesterday are free anymore. These deals seem to rotate fast.
edited to add book.

a brief interlude
Feb. 22nd, 2012 05:41 pmI'm feeling so cranky today. I don't think I'm actually acting that cranky, especially for me but I am feeling it. I even put "stop being cranky" on my to do list.
In other news I was trying to convince a guy friend to give The Vampire Diaries a try. He loves vampire and werewolf stuff. He had heard of it but thought it looked too girly for him. Girly? This is from a man who loves the Twilight movies! He says he'll give it a try. We shall see.

Stuff and Words
Feb. 19th, 2012 11:45 pmI got this in the mail the other day:

I won it in a giveaway and it's signed by the author! Awesome :)
In other news here is where I am at with my 2012 word count:
18590 / 100000 (18.59%)
And here are a couple of recent pictures of Kitsune under the cut...( Read more... )

I'm not sure if there is anyone interested in this sort of thing but
Visions of the Cailleach - Exploring the Myths, Folklore and Legends of the pre-eminent Celtic Hag Goddess by Sorita d'Este and David Rankine
is free on the Kindle right now. Regular kindle price is usually $6.99 and regular print price is a lot higher than that. These deals usually don't last long so I thought I would just give a heads up in case anyone here was interested in this type of thing.
Avalonia press has several of their titles available for the kindle now at very reasonable prices and much less than their print books.
and no I don't get anything for posting this. I saw the book was free last night and snagged it and thought I'd share the info here in case there were any other interested parties.

update like stuff
Feb. 15th, 2012 05:42 pmI'm still doing the 100 Breakfasts thing. Though I'm not doing it everyday. I do try and do it most days. The idea is to photograph my breakfasts for 100 days within 2012. Low pressure and all that :)
The writing thingy is going more slowly than I'd like. Yesterday didn't help when I burned the tip of my finger with hot oil. Yeah not fun! It isn't too bad today. Hopefully I can do dishes again. Typing isn't too bad with a band aid to pad my finger. It was not my day in the kitchen last night at all. I should have gotten more sleep. I was pretty much useless the whole day.
I'm still doing the Month of Letters thingy. Though it's been more a month of postcards on my end here. I'm caught up today. But if you want mail you can still add your address here. You don't need to send me anything back. I do need more addresses.
I even joined:

I was so desperate for more people to send stuff to!
I seem to have slowed down on the reading thing this month. I've only got a couple novels, a short ebook and a short story. I read the short story that TV show Justified is based on. It was pretty neat. It was pretty much the pilot with some minor differences in character ages and background and one major difference in the ending.
and here is a picture of Kitsune...

What I watched week #6 (2/5-2/11)
Fringe 4.11
Sherlock 1.02
The Vampire Diaries 3.13
Person of Interest 1.13
Big Love 5.01 & 5.02
Criminal Minds 7.13
Justified 3.04
Castle 4.14
Fringe 4.12
Big Love 5.03-5.05

nothing much
Feb. 14th, 2012 07:38 pmThis winter has been so surreal. Barely any snow at all, nothing that has stuck around for very long. And mostly on the warm side. The next three days are supposed to be in the high forties. It's crazy and I kind of hate to admit it but I've been loving it. I've long grown tired over New England winters and this is much more to my liking and I didn't even have to move to a different part of the country to get it ;)
I'm sure we'll be back to snow filled winters next year but this year I'm enjoying the hell out of the break.
In other news today has been highly unproductive. I've felt so drained since I woke up. I probably should have gone back to bed and gotten more sleep. I guess 5 1/2 hours just isn't enough. Go figure.
I have gotten some laundry done though, so I guess that is something.

State of the Word
Feb. 10th, 2012 03:52 amI'm pretty much all over the place with projects. Basically just playing around here and there just trying to get words down for the practice. And the hope that it will spark an idea for a longer project.
I don't seem to be writing everyday but more like every other day. On the days I've been writing I've been getting about 2K words the last few times.
Sometimes it is hard to get to the words. So many things I have to do around the house like cooking and looking after my daughter and answering her questions and getting interrupted by her many many times...and then there are the other distractions like books I want to read, shows I want to watch and of course the internet.
Still, not doing too badly. I'm moving at a pretty good pace toward the year's goal I think..

Icon Day...
Feb. 8th, 2012 07:06 pmIt's Icon Day again over at djinni's livejournal!
I love icon day. You can request one icon for free and there are incentives for tipping. There are some rules you can go check it out in the post.
I'm using one of my new icons from the last icon day! So cute!

to want all the books
Feb. 3rd, 2012 02:30 amThe thing I don't like about getting books out of the library, especially getting too many books out at a time is that I feel like I don't have a choice in what to read next. I have to keep in mind due dates and can't just go with mood unless I want to deal with late fees or returning books unread.
There are usually some books I end up returning unread anyway and then I end up getting them again another time. Sometimes only to send them back unread again.
I would prefer to buy all of the books I want but that would be a crazy insane number of books and I just can't afford to do that. I can't even read all that I want to read either. There just aren't enough hours in the day when there are so many good books out there.

Writing Stuff
Feb. 3rd, 2012 01:46 amWell for the first two days of the month I wrote at least 2K words each day so that now I've broken the 10,000 word mark!
10991 / 100000 words. 11% done!
And now I have a new
origfic_bingo card for the new month. Happy fun word time!
My bingo card under the cut:
Now I need to go read because I've a book that needs to go back on Saturday that I haven't even started yet.

I highly enjoyed most of these. Really only Right Hand Magic by Nancy A. Collins and Wither: Recast Book 1 by Yolanda Sfetsos were disappointments.
Five of the books I read were from the library. Seven books were on my Kindle and one was a paperback that had been sitting in my TBR pile since August of 2009 when it first came out (My Soul to Take). All were fiction.
I also read a bunch of books with my daughter but I'm not counting those this year so didn't write them down.
I have a problem
Jan. 31st, 2012 03:59 pmpossibly an addiction...
These are the fiction books I have out from the library right now (minus three that aren't in this pile):

Yeah, I don't know. But I can't seem to be able to help myself. I should be reading the books I have here but no...I keep getting more and more out of the library because I WANT ALL THE BOOKS!!!
*sigh*
At least I have plenty to read ;)

Kitsune...
Jan. 31st, 2012 02:31 pm
would like to remind anyone who missed it that I'm sending out snail mail during the month of February for the Month of Letters Challenge:
A Month of Letters Challenge
1. In the month of February, mail at least one item through the post every day it runs. Write a postcard, a letter, send a picture, or a cutting from a newspaper, or a fabric swatch.
2. Write back to everyone who writes to you. This can count as one of your mailed items.
and if anyone is interested in mail they can comment on the post over here on dreamwidth and the post over here on livejournal and leave me their address or grab my email from there and send it to me that way. Even if you think I may have it, I may not because I've switched computers.
